LTC (Ret) Scott Gray Bio

I served in the U.S. Army and the Louisiana Army National Guard (LANG) for a little over 30 years. I have deployed into combat 3 times or about 10% of my career. I also have some civilian experience. I worked for Willamette Industries as a Supervisor producing Plywood and for Blue Bell Creameries as a Territory Manager.

The first 15 years of my military career I was an Engineer. During this timeframe I deployed to Desert Storm (1990-1991). I then attended Officer Candidate School at Ft. Benning, GA.

I was transferred to the Logistics branch for the next 15 plus years of my career. I deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom 3 and Operation Iraqi Freedom 10 / Operation New Dawn. I was the Commander of a Forward Operations Base during my last deployment. My final assignment with LANG, I was assigned as Louisiana’s Plans and Policy branch chief, and retired this past November.

I am now the Senior Army Instructor with the JROTC program at Dyer County High School. Our mission is to Motive young people to be better citizens. Our goal is to teach our Cadets to become leaders, instill self-esteem, self-discipline and teamwork in them. The JROTC program has excellent facilities both at the school and the old National Guard armory in Newbern. Having started the JROTC program in January 2015, I have seen how much support JROTC gets from the community, business and the school, but I am really proud to see how much the parents get involved.
